Dir: Oscar Micheaux 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die This is definitely one of those movies that are in the 1001 book because of its importance to the history of cinema (First African-American Writer/Director/Producer) rather than the quality of the film itself. Micheaux's film is well filmed and paced, but the narrative is ALL over the place to the point that I really couldn't follow the story. It wasn't until the late flashback vinget that I really saw how good a filmmaker he could be. The flashback was exciting, sad, and iunnerving, infinitely more than the main story. C+ |
