Dir: D.W. Griffiths Stars: Lillian Gish 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die So sorrowful, so sweet, so intense, and so beautiful. I really got hooked into this film. Griffith's use of color hues (apparently a projectionist error that made him alter the print) really sets wonderful moods and heightens emotions when "yellow" characters eneter the "pink" hue. It makes sense once you see it. Lillian Gish is such a porcelain doll and to watch her mistreated and then cared for is so powerful. It was like a Romeo & Juliet with just the BARE minimum of happiness. Wonderful cinema. A |
